[Milsurplus] documentary question

John et al,
No, this doc was in the European Theatre and the pilot noted that he allowed
his 'diary' to be published beacuse he wanted his grandson to know that he
flew each mission assigned and never retreated, regardless of flak
encountered.
The video shows dramatically how he aged during the 44-45 period. Not much
footage of dogfights but lots of video of ground attacks, at which the
Thunderbolt excelled.
The radio part of the video depicts his story of getting a radio call from
an infantry unit pinned down and trapped in the ruins of a village with a
Panzer tank bearing down. Bottom line is he is able to dive bomb the tank
with one of the 500 pounders and save the day. Later in life, by fluke he
meets the leader of that unit, both awed at the coincidence.
So, does anyone remember the video and second, was a P-47 able to
communicate with infantry in France in 44 or 45?
Thanks, 73,
Keith
