[Milsurplus] TBS Crystals 2 styles

Was looking at some TBS crystals.

Early type: ceramic holder

stainless steel nameplate

safety wire on 3 sealing screws

plate pressure was set via screw adjustment at 

manufacture - then screw sealed, but can be

cleaned out for adjustment

 

New type - plastic holder, like BC-669

crystals but different pin spacing.

 

Why the massive expense, compared to

the streamlined war-expendable version?

The more expensive one must have maybe

cost double. Was that a manufacturer's

boondoggle? Safety wire on a crystal???
