Hi Greg,
There is a pair of contacts on the antenna relay brought out to the
power connector to be used to mute the receiver on transmit. There
should also be a binding post labeled "receiver" for the receiver
antenna connection. For LF work there were various external boxes and
big knife switches that tuned and transferred the antenna to the
trailing wire. I think the CU-32 combined tuning and transfer into one
box.
When I first applied power to my first ART-13 it scared the heck out
of me as all the autotuners started up with a lot of noise and
clatter! But it is quite an impressive set to see working properly.

Subject: [Milsurplus] ART 13 change over relay
Hi:
My Shelby Hamfest acquired ART 13 is close to completion. My home
made power
supply is huge and heavy but can do the job.
My question is: what is the tradional way to flip the antenna from the
transmitter to the receiver and vice versa? My guess is to use a relay
wired to
the primary of the plate supply transformer to control an antenna relay
and mute
contacts. Is that about right? The mating receiver will be a HQ 170,
R 388 or
possibly a Heathkit Mohawk.
How did Uncle Sam do it in an aircraft back in the bad old days?
Thanks
Greg
