[Milsurplus] WW 2 plywood, "boatanchor" boat

The process more than likely used was "Duramold."  Hughes used this to fabricate the skin of the Hercules.  Fairchild and others had used it earlier to fabricate smaller aircraft.  

As others have stated, it has been used in many applications over the years, boats, furniture and even arcade games!  I suppose you could call it one of the first composite structures.  I would think it to be similar in a way to "laying up" fibreglass -- but rather than using woven glass cloth, thin wood veneer sheets are used with a binder in a pattern or mold.
