[Milsurplus] DAV-2 Loop

    Robert Downs asked me to trace  the  wiring in my set of  the  DAV-2 
loop and to compare my observations it to a schematic that he has started to 
correct. He was correcting some errors that he discovered in his copy of the 
Instruction Book for the Navy DAV-2 as well as some errata sheets . I sent 
my findings to Robert and he has advised me that the revised schematic is 
now available in  his reprint of the manual along  the revised schematic has 
been cleaned up, new symbols added and connector pin outs are more readable.
    I was impressed with the simplicity of the loop configuration, it is a 
"shielded" loop that is unbalanced(one side grounded) and is center tapped 
with jumpers for the frequency range.  The loop is permanently mounted in 
the molded plywood box. The user has to hold the radio to his body and 
perform an  aural null. The loop circuit has a no nonsense  simple circuit 
for injection of the whip antenna  for "sensing"--- the sense circuit uses a 
insulated plunger that is panel mounted to push a leaf type switch inside 
the radio.  An elegant design.
    I like Roberts reprint manuals, they are clean, with excellent  large 
fold outs and I am able to spread the book out on the kitchen table and not 
receive any complaints from my XYL as to the musty, moldy smell etc.
    Perhaps an 80 meter and 6 meter DF event at Gilbert next year?
