Has anyone had the opportunity to use, modify or part out a URM-50? Does
this set have any practical or fun value in the ham shack (Sorry, I have an
impaired imagination and do not wish to overlook any possibilities).
This is the Military IM-84/URM-50 Field Strength Meter made by National
Company, Inc. for the US Navy as part of the AN/URM-50 Radio Frequency
Monitor. This is basically a tube receiver tunable from 30kcs to 400mc. It
uses a very interesting rotating turret assembly for band switching. It
covers a very wide swath of frequencies. It has a very husky power supply
along with copious amounts of taxpayer funded hardware, brackets, chassis
parts, etc. There is no bandspread and it has had the fungus-among-us
treatment.
It is in really nice shape. The outside case is missing but somehow the
innards have escaped any physical damage.
Thanks in advance for any helpful comments. I receive the digest so will be
looking for any responses in my daily summaries.
