Has anyone restrung a Prc-*** military Whip Antenna?
How did you do it?
Thanks,
Pat in FL.

Pat,

I've used mason line in the past. This is the multi-strand tightly-wound nylon line available at hardware stores used during construction to set up walls (check for plumb, etc.) It seems to be fairly durable.

Unscrew the bottom knurled cap to get access to the connect point at the spring. Use a wrench on the hex section and a rag under your pliers so you don't bung up the knurling. Connect the string to a 19" piece of solid insulated wire to make it easier to thread it through the whip sections. Thread from bottom to top. Experiment until you find the right tension and put enough knots at the top to retain.

Tension will be enough to hold the sections together when assembled, but not so much that the whip can't be totally collapsed.
