[Milsurplus] 12v -- 24v Vehicle Power

A major problem of using two batteries in series on 24 volt vehicles is
that you might be tempted to tap off at 12 volts and use the 12 volt tap to
power 12 volt equipment or accessories.
During start if the 12 volt equipment is "on" then that equipment is
subject to a tremendous spike during vehicle starting when the starter is
released.
Solution: Leave everything off during start or better yet use a commercial
grade 24 to 12 volt converter. Been there and done that.

Pickups on Government Liquidators web site, and always several on EBay. On
the subject of parallel batteries I had a 1985 Chevy Box van that I bought
from DRMO that used the same 6.2L diesel in a 12 volt system and it used two
batteries in parallel with two cables between them, no diodes or nothing.
Other Chevy diesels I have seen are the same way.

| Hmmm...6.2L diesel? Wonder if any were traded in the Cash for Clunkers
| program.... :-D
