Hi Ric,

I'm not sure if you are aware of the trend, but since the 1990s most of
us on this reflector have shifted from 'modification' to
'restoration/preservation'. Part of that shift has come with the
realization that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, and a
WWII design is about as good as it's gonna be without a complete gutting
and redesign with modern parts and circuits. Besides, part of the fun
is working folks with an imperfect receiver! :-)

Mind you, there are external devices that can be helpful. An excellent
add-on is a preselector - the RSGB manuals have several good designs.
Post-processing audio with a DSP or other noise blanker is also useful.
I think that's as much help as you're likely to get from this pack of
enthusiasts...heh, heh. Now, if you want to know how to get its
performance back to original specs, you will get a lot of help.

Best 73,
Mike KC4TOS
