Yeah, that's pretty clever. As in, it took me about five minutes of thinking about it (including looking up the meaning of "commutator") to think I understand what you mean. It seems to me that the key is that the two dynomotors can't turn at different speeds when you switch from receive to transmit.

 

However, as with all things related to miltary radio, I am fully convinced that it is completely bitchin'.
