Tony,
I work with TIF's almost every day, as that's what I do all the manual
scanning to, instead of PDF's which cannot be cleaned up. Windows NT and 2000
both shipped with a good basic TIF viewer and editor, originally called Wang
Image, then Kodak Image. When XP came out, Microsoft, in its infinite
stupidity, quit shipping Imaging and assigned IE as the default TIF viewer. IE
can open multi-page TIF's but can't see beyond the first page, which is
probably why you can now only see the first page. Imaging (a commercial program)
was improved through several versions while belonging to Kodak. And was
then sold (or maybe the department or division of Kodak that handled it was
sold) to eiStream Technologies, which took it through one or two more version
updates before I lost track of them or maybe they morphed into a different
industry after 2003. Anyway, the last version, AFAIK, was 2.8. It runs fine
under W2K and XP.
There are several other programs around that can read multi-page TIF's.
But some can't properly handle a TIF that has been compressed (like
Irfanview), so the images look awful. Adobe Acrobat will import a multipage
compressed TIF and view it OK. And it will save it to a PDF, which next time, the
Adobe viewer will open. If you already have a fairly recent version of
Acrobat, that might be your best bet. Convert the files to PDF.
Alternatively, you can find and install the version of Imaging that shipped
with W2K. It runs fine under XP. I've sent it to three or four people.
