The item on the left is an Astrocompass which is used by a navigator in an
aircraft to take a bearing on a landmark, object on the ground, sun, moon
etc. This will give a relative bearing used for a line of position or simple
position checks. The Astrocompass is not that uncommon and they show up
fairly regularly. It came out in WWII and was used well after.

The object on the right is a sextant which is used to determine the height
above the horizon of stars the sun and moon. This angle or height above the
horizon can be used along with celestial tables to determine a line of
position. This is also an instrument used by a Navigator likely one in the
Army Air Forces.
