de N4TGC Eric

Wunna dees days, I's gonna get around 2 actually making use of that
MRC-55 man. and 'boot up' my copy of the R-808 (it'd been "hot-wired"
by the former owner, but ...) at which point no doubt Dave will hear
from me!

One nice oddity of the R-808 is that it appears to have been designed
by a Ham! Note that in band-changing, Ham bands are generally
sequential: Band 1, "2 - 4 mc", actually goes down to 1.8; switch to
Band 2, and you're right on 3.9 - 4 mc; but start on Band 1 at 3.5 mc,
and you're only 1 spin of the crank away from 7.3 on Band 2, and then
right atop 14.0 on Band 3 AND 29.5 mc on Band 4! In the 'can't have
everything' dept.:, if you start on 21 mc, switching down puts you near
the 60 meter sliver, but 10 crank-spins away from 1.8 on Band 1.

I forgive it for being too heavy and oddly constructed. I must,
anyway, I still have it ... anyone ever find a use for the guard
channel?!
