The British, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, South Africans,
Indians, Free
Poles, Free French...oh yes, and the Americans. Remember though it was
the Russians who captured Berlin forcing Hitlers suicide and the German
surrender.

The King of Belgium capitulated first allowing the Germans to flank the
Maginot Line and with the blitzkrieg warfare wreck havoc.
It was barely 20 years earlier that France had fought a devastating
battle that decimated her army and wiped villages off the map. You can
sympathize with her people for not wanting to repeat that.
CDG did rally his people. By the time D-Day arrived the Free French
Forces numbered 400,000.

In keeping with a radio theme let's not forget the British efforts with
Operation Fortitude and Aspidistra that greatly reduced the expected
D-Day casualties.

BTW, CDG didn't make many friends in Canada with his "Vivre Le Quebec
Libre" speech.

Bruce
