Theme: was there ever 388A ID plates?

Answer: I can provide this.  A pal nearby has a 388 with dog tag

   US Army Sig Corps / R388 / Phila 53-wxyz, sn 341.  Black panel

and another with

   US Army Sig Corps / R388 / Phila 52-wxyz, sn 123.  Gray panel

Besides paint & being on a year earlier contract, the latter is
further different.  It has the 51J4 filter semaphor switch concentric
with the BFO shaft.

Could it be that these "R388As" were mech. filter factory retrofits??
D'ya think the gray panel counts?

I know a Ft. Monmouth alumni fm the period & will try the theory there
