Don't forget that the Enigma code was first broken by a team of Poles who gave the essential mathematical solutions to the British and the French prior to the fall of France. The primary British contributions, which were essential to producing Ultra material, were intercepts and computing machines used by an organized, expert staff to regularly break Enigma messages. Also, they handled the later four rotor Navy code when it appeared using the technology developed by Bletchley Park's staff. Overall, the Allies were exceedingly lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to steal a march on the Germans who never believed that Enigma was vulnerable.
