I do a fair amount of this type of cover "correction", Eugene. The
difficulty with the case on this style of cover is that it is fairly
deep and because of the aluminum thickness and alloy, quite stiff. I
keep two foot long oak 2x4 and 4x4 "persuasion elements" in the corner
to use with a graduated set of sledges, starting at 5 pounds and going
up to 20. Basically, you back up the bottom of the case on a piece of
soft pine to allow for incremental movement, situate the 2x4 (or 4x4
depending on the area of the depression) over the area to be
straightened, and take a few whacks with the sledge. Start with the
lightest hammer and go easy. Escalate as necessary. :-) Your eye
and patience level will be your guide. There are other ways of
straightening it, including the use of threaded rod and large "washers"
if there is a through-hole. Ideally, the goal is to recreate the forces
that created the bends, but in the opposite direction. If you keep that
in mind, you'll be okay.

Best 73,
Mike KC4TOS
