I thought it was a great hamfest. I was somewhat disappointed in our "VHF"
144.250 Mc activity but we have to start somewhere. It was worth the trip
just to see Rob and his Jr. Operator Martin sitting on the tailgate in the
rain with an ARC-4 perched precariously on other stuff and wires running
everywhere. I did not see Rob's TCS so I guess he ran out of room. Rob
brought me some 5 pin bases to use for coils for my HBR-14 project. BTW Rob
needs a connector for the ARC-4. Ray KA3EKH spotting a military discone
antenna that was cut for 200-400 Mcs - the antenna and base can be
completely collapsed, the antenna was
over painted desert tan and came with RG-58 type feedline with TNC to BNC
adapter on it. I picked it up for ten bucks and may use it this year to
break the PRC-41 distance record at Gilbert. . .but the rods on the discone
portion were assembled with lock nuts and bolts so the project may lend
itself to being modified for 145.250 and our new VHF activity.
Tom Bryan brought me a Russian rod antenna for the R-104M that
disassembles and is towed under the "secret" door in the power supply. Tom
was there with a URC-101 on the air.
Lt. Col William Perry was there and brought me a connector I can use for
my TRC-77 and in addition he filled half of my connector requests on the
spot. Col Perry he had everything from BC-454's to terminal strips at this
multiple table site.
Jeep, K3HVG and Ted W3PWW had a nice table set up inside the "drive
in" tail gate area which was all most full. Jeep and Ted run the East Coast
Military Radio net on Saturday morning and Sunday evening. It was rumored
that Mark, K3MSB was there E and E'ing around but that was unconfirmed.
AWOL was Al Klase and Ed Zeranski.
