I'm pretty sure it means the conning station on the Bridge - in the
vicinity of the wheel. I don't know about the CVE's but the Essex Class carriers
had a Secondary Conn located in the after end of the island structure. If
the article had meant Secondary Conn, it would probably have said so.
Secondary Conn must have fallen into disfavor or something. In 1967/68, Valley
Forge still had a VD repeater installed in Secondary Conn. I think I recall
that there was also an Emergency Conn located in After Steering.
