G'day to the list members !

I have a 50 MW UHF Klystron tube free to a good home:

Varian Model VA-889F

This tube was part of an airborne long range radar system, and that is pretty much all I know. There is some
information on the Internet that I pulled up some time ago about its intended mission.

Here is the data directly off the product spec plate:

Electron Tube
Klystron Amplifier
Type VA-889F
49956 975511-1
Serial Number 296R2
Manufacturer Date Code 613
Beam Voltage 41.2 kV
RF Drive 30.0 W
Filament 8.0 Volts
Focus Coil Current 15.5 A
Hour Meter Readings (2 each) High Voltage = 6485 and Filament Hours = 12447
Frequency Range: Uncertain

Physical Dimensions: The tube stands 44" in height and 12" in diameter and weighs approximately 120 lbs.

The tube is water cooled, and has an integral water pump, and is jacketed in Copper. All tubing and interconnection cables are there. It has an "N-F" input connector and a large coaxial output connector that I am unfamiliar with. Some connector flange bolts were removed, but all the parts are there, minus the skins.

I removed and discarded the skins for one reason. The tube with the skins on, *may* appear to be a menacing piece of hardware, that *may* lead a casual observer to a critical misconception as to exactly what the piece of hardware is. The highly visible X-Ray warning label *may* add to this confusion. This tube is not something you will find in an average home or garage.

I purchased the tube for educational purposes, and would like to pass it on to someone who can use it constructively.

As an added bonus, I will include (free) a Scientific Atlanta Wide Range Microwave Receiver (.02 to 40 GHz) Series 1710. It powers up and the trace on the CRT is visible although weak. It has a 10 MHz IF output, video and Bolometer outputs and is in good condition, as is. It does NOT demodulate signals.

This giveaway is the result of downsizing only.

Free to a good home ONLY, pickup ONLY. Orange County, CA. Irvine area.

Please contact me off list if you are interested.

Best regards !
