I had thought that the BC-224-A was always paired
with the BC-307-*, but that of course was naive. I
see in this Mechanix Illustrated radio special ( no cover,
and undated pages ) a view inside a plane, a "big
bomber", with a BC-224-A on the table with a BC-191-AA
(looks like ) on the floor underneath. The photo looks like
the radio position in a B-17 but the photo above shows
what looks like a DC-3. The inside view shows a well
rounded shape to the airframe. There's a antenna reel
on the wall next to the radio table. The op's seat looks
like a kitchen chair mounted on a traffic cone, the back
of the chair is carved wood with formed slats, unpadded.
Then there's another BC-224-A photo.This time the
ceiling of the plane is level, flat, only rounded where the
ceiling meets the side walls. The BC-224-A is on a long
bench type table running down one side. Before the
area where the 224 is, there's what looks like a fold-down
table extension. With this table or surface folded down,
it 3/4 blocks the hatchway (shown with closed door) to
another compartment. No transmitter seen. On opposite
side from 224 is a long periscope-like thing extended down
from the roof, this is the loop antenna rotation control.
What aircraft is this?
