That's not quite correct.  Field Radios include vehicular and pack sets and 
depending upon how you parse them, there were up to about a dozen different 
nomenclatures in actual service before the first SCR-300.  The SCR-300 was 
the first backpack FM set that could be conveniently operated while carrying 
it.  It entered service in 1943.  It was preceded by the SCR-508, 509, 510, 
608, 609 and 610 plus variants on those, and briefly by several earlier 
sets that never turn up.
