Hey John, hi!

If Meir got success w. a series cap, it was because he was compensating
for the inductance (Xl) of a swinging link

Those swinging links act like a taps on the tank.  So.... if you
compensate for the inductance by peaking the output with a seriesed
VARIABLE BC-band variable, u shud be able to handle a wide range of
load RESISTANCES.  50-75 ohms being one of 'em

Now watch, the ATD may not have a swinging link but like I sed,
I bet, noting WF2U's success, each of those TUs does have a swinging
link

Hey don't forget to zero-out any built-in random-wire loading.  AND,
credit the ARRL 50s & late 40s handbooks for this explanation
