ARRL has a pretty interesting albeit short 
coastwatcher story at

Only thing is, as usual, I am hungering for more:
When Paul Mason sent "from STO twenty four 
bombers headed yours", did he (most likely) use
DE STO or V STO; did Townsville acknowledge;
was traffic from the ships minimized, or none; 
when Mason heard a carrier radio operator 
commenting about enemy planes dropping like
flies, what kind of transmission was that - I 
thought ships maintained radio silence? 
Anyway, check it out. I wish Mason had written
