[Milsurplus] ITEMS WANTED

You can sometimes come very close with the tech manual installation
drawings and a fuzzy photo of the actual mount, Tom. I've used those
ingredients to create mounts for a number of extremely rare airborne
pieces of gear. The installation drawings are normally to scale, so a
hi res scan and then careful measurement of the image at high
magnification will get you pretty close. The other thing that helps is
that mounts for a particular type, such as shipboard receivers as a
class, generally have the same general construction, so you can compare
the drawings with the architecture of a known mount. Since you don't
expect your shack to be hit by a torpedo, in the final analysis the
appearance of accuracy is probably more important than the ability to
absorb a 12.7g vertical force for 6.3 milliseconds, or whatever the
original specification called for. :-)
