I have one of these Hagenuk-built GRC-9 amplifiers (LV80/GRC-9), set up with
my GRC-9. Puts out 100 W on CW and 35 W on AM. It's easy to tune and load,
works great. Has a pair of the 12 V version of the 6146, the power supply is
a solid-state inverter supply with 24 VDC input.
The amp/supply weigh a little more than the GRC-9 itself, but not by much.
If anyone interested, I'll post a photo of my setup on my website.
I use the station from time to time on the east-coast Old Military Radio Net
on 80 M. I scanned the manual (it's in German) and the PDF document is
available from me to whoever needs it.
This amp is not the same as the clunky French amp with three 2E22 tubes
(AM-66/GRC-9) which was the size of the GRC-9 itself, plus another supply
box with a dynamotor.
There is another amp, the RA-1/GRC-9 which is the same as the LV-80 except
instead of BNC input and TNC output connectors has antenna/ground posts like
the GRC-9 itself, this was used by the Belgian military.
This same amp (the RA-1 type) has an AM-xxxxx/GRC-9 nomenclature as well
with a 4 digit number, I think that was intended to be made here and used by
US forces but probably the availability by that time of the GRC-19 made the
amp obsolete as far as the US was concerned.

Thanks Robert.
I was thinking that the reason was that we had something better
already at the time. This German one does look nice inside though...

Jay,
To add to what Dave wrote, no, it is not the same as the French one
(which
I have the TM on but not the hardware).
As to why, probably because of the AN/GRC-19. The all-up weight of the
AN/GRC-9 plus the amplifier and its power supply is comparable to that
of the
GRC-19, and the GRC-19 doesn't take up as much room. Plus it is stable
enough and had the accessories for RATT.
