[Milsurplus] [Boatanchors] Coils and the winding thereof

Having just finished building a homebrew 14 tube receiver (the
HBR-14 )and winding coils for several bands including 160 meters I've found
that coating the coils completely with paint, dope, different kinds of
glue etc. will lower the Q by 10 to 15 points (measured with a Heath Q-
meter). On a typical coil that has a overall Q of 140 to 150-----lowering
the Q value by 10 to 15 points will just not effect the overall receiver
performance enough to worry about. However, instead of completely coating
the coils I just applied three vertical strips, approximately 1/8 inch
wide spaced evenly around the coils using fingernail polish to hold the
windings in place.
We used to say " Don't sweat the small stuff" and get on with the mission.

Available at most Home Depots by the quart. Just use it outside.
