When working on projects, I used to put hardware in a pill bottle, labelled with the name of the piece of equipment.  That was usually fine as long as reassembly was reasonably soon after disassembly.  When projects dragged on, it turned into more of a problem to remember which screws went where.

My new favorite helper is a 7-day pill organizer that has curved bottoms to the individual boxes, making extraction of tiny pieces easy.  Now I can put the screws from one cover in one, that mounted board x in another, etc. etc.  

Biggest help on my bench since I added optics.
