Ben,
The spring latches come in several sizes and designs. Postwar ones usually
(but not always) have two coil springs. WW-II vintage usually has an oval ring
of piano wire. I have a supply of the latter in the size that was used on
the BC-1000 and for the lid or top cover of the PE-97, -117 and -120. Condition
is NOS. Price is $7.50 each, plus shipping. This is the latch only. Does
not include the hook mounted to the other component (but you said those are
already present on whatever it is you wish to attach a battery box to).
You will need to compare the hooks on your main case to a latch and hook on a
BC-1000 or one of the power supplies to make sure that the latch ring fits
your hooks.
For information of anyone who needs one or some of these to repair a BC-1000
or vibrator supply, there appear to have been three wire diameters used. The
early war originals were mostly (at least on samples I've checked) 0.084"
diameter. Some few have the wire formed into what I'll call an elongated hexagon
instead of a relatively smooth oval. One of those I have has 0.076" diameter
wire. The mid and late war and replacement units use 0/095" diameter wire.
The ones used on the BC-1306 and RT-77/GRC-9 are wierd, longer than any others
I've seen and with the oval spring bent in an arc to clear the seal area. I
have none of those other than part of one set on a BC-1306 case I keep for
testing radios.
