John,

I'm sorry but why would you want to?  The BC-348 works pretty well as is.  
And unbutchered ones are getting hard to find.  Most of the sets modified by 
those so called improvements from the late 40's and 50's didn't work as well as 
before the mod and have either gone to a landfill or been used for parts to 
restore another one that had had different mods done to it.  I have roughly 200 
square feet of shelf space in my storage building (not all of it BC-348's) 
holding the cadavers of such sets in case someone needs a part.

About the only two reasons anyone would buy such a modified set today would 
be for parts or because it reminds them of one they had when they were a kid.  
And as soon as the latter fit passes it goes to someone else for parts or to 
the landfill.  If you want a receiver with current performance (whatever that 
passes for), buy one.  And next year, when that one quits or is obsolete, buy 
another one.  There are no doubt a number of people around who would be happy 
to have your mint BC-348-R.
