FWIW - I always turn mine on at least 2 hours before I need any serious freq setting activity. An OT in the Club said, as a tech, he/they never turned them off when using them during the Korean "Conflict".

I have a Hammarlund HQ-145 that has a built in clock w/timer for this warm-up purpose. Saves a trip to the Shack.
