[Milsurplus] Abuse of radio "relics"

Mike puts it very clear and concise.  What is it; how did it get that
way; and what's it for?   I myself, going into a military carrier in 1945,
spent most of my time with fixed-plant equipment which was quasi-
civilian, so most of the military equipments mentioned here are strange
to me.   I've used military equipment for ham radio, it was usually
available, but I don't recall modifying anything to do it.  (Except for
the time we doubled in the final of a BC-610 to get on 10 Mtrs.)
I enjoy what I hear here, and I learn a lot.
