It contains a teflon component, but I don't think it is accurate
to say it is teflon-based.

Not at all!  I've used it on every firearm I've owned for the past
25 years, and on crackle-finish radio components for the same period.
It has no objectionable odor that I've ever detected, nor have any
of my friends in the local firearm communities ever commented adversely
on it.  That's really no surprise, since there's not much of anything
to smell unless one sticks his nose into the bottle.

I haven't repainted any military radio gear since I did it to an
R-105/ARR-15 that I got from Navy MARS in 1968.  I prefer to leave
these items as original as possible.
