In fact, there were carefully crafted cover stories for both microwave
RADAR and the cipher decrypts, just to delay discovery in the never ending
"spy-vs-spy" deadly game. IR paint on ships was one such story.

LO radiation is likely detectable near by, but not at any serious range.
