Forwarding for Jason:
Ian, Please forward this to the milsurplus list (as I'm not
subscribed) and any other interested parties.
I had planned to specifically NOT go to Apex on my day off today,
though I needed to go to that general neighborhood to rummage through
a(n automotive) junkyard for some late model Ford bits.
Then I saw the message below. ;)
The younger guy who's behind the counter most of the time said they
wanted "around $300" for it, but the head guy (who's name I can never
remember... I want to call him Dennis) said that the guy up front was
badly mistaken, and that he wanted $500 firm.
As can be seen from the crappy phone pics,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kf6pqt/ its a little rough. Supposedly
it got trucked in from somewhere else, and hadn't been in the Apex
yard for the last half century. I would have begrudgingly offered $200
cash for it, but I knew that would have been an act of futility, so I
didn't even bother. It has the 230V DC power supply anyway, and not he
115V single-phase AC one.
Heck, it looks like it weighs as much as a BC-610, takes up MORE
space, puts out WAY less RF, and is even more difficult to power up.
Why in the heck would I want it? (yes, we'll keep telling ourselves
this, and thats its NOT rarer and cooler than a BC-610....)
I did however, get a bandswitch from a BC-375 and a 304TL marked
"gassy" for $25. THESE are some of the reasons why I try to avoid
that place! ;)
73,
Jason kf6pqt
