All:

     Instead of cutting and bending aluminium, I chose the easy route.  I 
used masking tape to tape together all of the 9 Volt batts and all the 
C-cells in their holders.  The C-cells make a nice platform for the 9 
Volters to lie on top of inside the batt compartment.  The AAA cells 
conveniently rest aside of both of these.  All this if you leave enough 
slack in the batt leads to the 7-pin socket.  The batts rattle around a bit, 
but the -6 is not likely to be used in real combat in the near future.
