[Milsurplus] RT-524 fan noise

The RT-524 (and RT-246) fan was actuated both by via PTT action, or by a
thermostatic switch. The thermostatic switch started the fan if the PA
assembly overheated, regardless of PTT action. It's not uncommon to hear
the fan start in receive mode in vehicular installations where the radio is
exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. Long periods of retrans
operation can also cause continuous fan operation. BTW, this often caused
confusion among GIs, who thought the radio had become "stuck in transmit".
If you're operating in a typical, reasonably cool indoor environment and
transmitting intermittently, you could disconnect the PTT-based fan control.
You may hear the fan start even in receive mode, if the temperature gets too
high.
