Floyd,

The thread that Mike's question pertained to began with a question that I
will translate to "when did US Ground Forces begin to switch to FM for short
range tactical communications?". There were several responses, some more
correct than others, and then it sorta segued into the perennial conflict
between Fred Link and Ed Armstrong over the rights to FM (sorta the modern-day
"who really killed the Young Princes?"). The "Texas Tower" question
pertained to a comment in the latter sub-thread that couldn't have had anything to
do with the events in Austin as by that time Armstrong and maybe Link were
long dead. What it was about I have no idea. It didn't mean anything to me.
The only other common usage of "Texas Tower" that I can think of is in
reference to early offshore drilling platforms, which were once commonly
referred to by the sensational media by that name, but also unrelated to tactical
FM radios or to UT.
