> John, it sounds like you have just volunteered for your next project
after you get done with BB-59s RADAR gear.
LoL. Sadly, my current circumstances would make that difficult.

It's a complex task because it would require going through and scanning a
lot of drawings and extracting the essentials (a knowlege of WW II subs
would be really helpful here). Writing the text would be very time
consuming too, because to write something up intelegently requires an
understanding of how it works.
I doubt much artistry would be required, but photographing the equipment
would be very time consuming. The spaces are so cramped, lighting and
optical distortion are real problemsb. It could well take a couple of
hours to get a single good shot. In two tours through the boat, maybe 5 of
my 200+ photos are halfway decent. The photos really need to be done with
the camera on a tripod and properly lighted (not via a strobe).
Consider how many high res photos it would take to reasonably document an
ARC-5 set, for example. You can't do even that in 5 minutes.
Once the IP is generated, it could easily be edited into booklets of
several degrees of detail, put onto a CD, or some mobile computing device,
or onto the web.
For those so equipped, maybe you coyuld hook up your iPhone or Blackberry
to a port in the gift shop and D/L the giude.
FWIW,
-John
