TACAMO is current stuff, not WW II.  Their planes are based
less than five miles from my house!

What about TACAMO?  Didn't they use extremely long wave propagation to contact submerged subs? Didn't they use a very narrow FSK mode of transmission? If so, did what did they decode it with? 
 
I realize the message were very short due to the slow data rate but it was a form of RTTY. 
 
I understand the Russians used a very low shift FSK mode at fairly high speed which was not too apparaent to the ear. encrypted, it was difficult to decipher.
