I've been fighting alligators since Ike and thought someone else would
probably speak up. But the short answer is that the two units are similar only in
appearance. The BC-1031 has a 455 KC input. It will tune up to 465 but
without mods I don't think it will go down to 400. The BC-1032 has a 5.25 MC input.
Which is why it can do a wider sweep.

The BC-1032 was probably made for use with the BC-787-(*) (Hallicrafters
S-27/36). I'm not sure on the BC-1031 as neither the SP-110 or SP-210 series of
Super Pro's (BC-779, et al) nor the tactical sets like the BC-342 came with IF
output AFAIK. . My assumption has always been that the spook shops modified
some of the former group. But I've never seen anything to substantiate that.

Some Navy sets like the RAO and the RBB/RBC had IF output modification kits
but I've never heard of any done by the Signal Corps. The Navy bought several
models of panadaptor with 455 KC and 400 KC for use with those sets. Some had
50 KC and some had 100 KC sweep ranges. Plus they bought 5.25 MC input units
for use with the RBK (S-27/36).
