Actually there is one other hard difference between the BC-312/314 and the
BC-342/344 models whereby you can ID the model number (but not letter) of a set
that is missing its nameplate. The DC models have a wire from the +12VDC line
to the Ring terminal on the SPEAKER 2ND AUDIO jack (one of two that take a
PL-68 instead of PL-55). This was apparently a carryover from the BC-189 and an
(as yet to me unknown) field coil loudspeaker and is not present in the AC
models.
