Hello Listers -
A while back, purchased a BC-221-AK; Yes I know its not worth its
weight. This is a tune up project to get back my soldering and circuit
debugging skills back in order with out breaking something of more
useful value. So in this sense its worth the effort.
Problem 1 :
Knob set screws will not loosen up an come out.
Problem 2:
Low end of the Low Band is out of calibration. What is interesting is
the High end of the Low Band is tracking by the book. Resistors are way
out of spec. and need to be replaced.
Due to problem 1; Did not replace resistor in the Crystal Oscillator
circuit across the crystal. Need to remove the Master Oscillator sub
chassis.
Due in part to problem 1; Did not replace any resistors in the Master
Oscillator circuit on the Coils or the resistor/cap mounted on the band
switch that feeds the Grid on the Master Oscillator. To replace the bad
components on the coils and coil switch I need to remove the knobs,
Problem 1.
Thanks
Hutch
Some progress
Cleaned out all the mold. Removed the mold from the calibration book.
Put two applications of liquid wrench on knob set screws. Checked tubes
all sturdy. Checked and replaced multiple resistors and 3 paper caps.
Note all micas were good. I was able to align the Crystal Oscillator,
as is, using an uncalibrated signal generator, HP-8601A, in
combination with a calibrated frequency counter, Sencore. I took 1.5V
out of the Signal Generator to get an audible Beat Note against the
Crystal Oscillator. The crystal Oscillator is stable as a rock.
