Further to Mike's comments:

The ATC and ATC-1 compnonents were converted to AN/ART-13 components by
changing the nameplates, or as Mike said removing the ATC nameplate and stenciling
the AN/ART-13 nomenclature. However, based on the examples I've seen,
relatively few were converted by stenciling.

In the case of the dynamotors, there was one ATC base and two physically
different dynamotors made by different contractos. The base and each dynamotor
had a Navy Type Number. After the conversion, the base plus one dynamotor
became DY-11 and the base plus other dynamotor became DY-12.

Some components had no individual nomenclature before the conversion but do
afterwards. In particular, the shock mounts, low frequency oscillator and LF
oscillator blanking panel.

As the rail-type shock mounts got JAN nomenclature, I've assumed that the
change to the bottom plate and one-piece shock mount came a little later.
However, as few (I've never seen one that I know of) T-47's have the early mounts,
there must have been enough trouble with them that like the antenna cap and
bakelite mic and earphone caps of the BC-611, an order was issued that said
change them to the new ones instead of just change them if they're broken.

One external difference between models is that the T-47 and NT-52286 don't
have flip-up covers over the jacks mounted behind the lower front panel. The
T-47A does. All the photos I've ever seen of the T-412 have the covers so if
the transmitter being converted didn't have them, they must have been added.

The antenna relay in the ATC is different from the one in the T-47A and most
of the T-47's I've had. But when it was changed I'm not certain.

I have hard copy manuals available of all of the manuals on the AN/ART-13,
13A and 13B. Including the overhaul manual. I have an original of the final
ATC manual but about the only differences between it and the first AN/ART-13
manual is the component nomenclature and the fact that it still covers the 8Q-1
MCW-CFI module.

The system wiring diagram of AN/ARC-8 is in the back of the AN/ART-13,
AN/ART-13A and AN/ART-13B maintenance manuals.

Finally, if you happen across one of the CDA-T plug-in modules, you only have
about half of the parts required for the conversion. And as two list members
and a (apparently) former list member can attest, the conversion isn't
trivial even if you have the detailed instructions and all of the parts.

One parting comment - If you happen across a COL-52286 whose nameplate says
"A Unit Of Model TCZ-(*) Radio Transmitting Equipment", except for the
nameplate (quite rare) it is the same as the ATC unit.
