Lloyd,

The R-392 is the system receiver of the AN/GRC-19, in conjunction with  
the T-195 transmitter and various and sundry accessories like an RTTY  
keyer and areceiving converter.

The 2 different case styles are: the ribbed case is the later style  
which is also similar to the later version T-195 case while the  
earlier T-195's had the ribless case with the round corners, like your  
R-392 on the right side.
I have GRC-19 transmitters and receivers with both case styles.

Otherwise, the R-392 is very similar electronically to the R-390 (not  
the -A) but it's using tubes at 26 V plate voltage and utilizing tubes  
rates so.
