I would say to Hue's question that most of these situations are essentially time-related. In other words, GF/RU equipment were early technology followed by ATA/ARC-5, then phasing in of the ARB, and later by ATC/BC-348. Meanwhile, selected VHF installations came in for command communications in parallel with channalized liaison equipment. Use of ZB homing converters almost always required compatible RU or ARB receivers. From what I have read or seen, most equipment was used far beyond what seems sensible. For example, a flying club near Huntsville bought an SNJ in the early '60's which still had and ATA 3-4 Mc transmitter with a companion receiver along with an R23/ARC-5. Anything seems likely depending on whether the aircraft was rear area or combat type equipment.
