Like another writer here, i would expect that the performance would be pretty
good - as i have been reassured about my main doubt about the tuning dial
action. ( However, these receivers weren't intended to be used to search for
QRP signals during a contest, anyway. ) The thing has  an RF and 2 IFs and
the crystal filter has both selectivity and phasing controls, which is better than
plenty of medium-cost receivers, including the SLRx series. 
( My main problem with the AC-DCs is that they almost always have some
dropping resistors inside them, which generate heat, plus the high-filament
voltage tubes such as 25L6 etc. all of which generate more heat. )

My question would be, what transmitter was this to be used with? 
I was going to ask why existing models of Mackay or such weren't used,
but i suppose this manufacturer simply underbid them. -Hue
