Although we never physically met, I knew Bill for at least 18 years as I have
an invoice dated early 1990 and my records before then are sparse. He was
always coming up with requirements for wierd wire, cable and parts, mostly for
restoring German sets. He had a book published once on Japanese sets. But the
best story involved la cucaracha. In the early 90's, I shipped him an NOSB
replacement cable for (I think) one of the Korean War vintage mounts. He
called me up and told me he would like a small rebate on shipping cost but that I
could apply it to the next order. I asked him why and he said because I had
shipped him something in the package that he hadn't ordered, which would have
increased the shipping weight. So like a good straight man, I asked him what.
And he replied, an NOSB cock roach. If that wasn't dry humour, the cock roach
certainly was (dry).
