That was my assumption as well. But it doesn't apply to RU-2 and -2a or 3 and 
3a. Note that some documents use lower case and some upper case. I don't have 
any of the hardware so don't know what was printed on the nameplates. Like 
the hyphen in the Navy Type Numbers and whether a letter suffix on the Set 
nomenclature meant a change or just another order, the Navy was consistent in its 
inconsistency. :-)

Take a look at SHIPS 242A. It will fill a bunch of the remaining holes, 
although it only gives contract year and not month and date.
