I haven't seen a response to your question so here's a bit of info for you:

The GSC designation is for Ground, Special Purpose, Communications 
equipment. In this case the special purpose is SATCOM equipment. The 
fact that there are no digits following the GSC indicates that the 
O-1806/GSC unit was used in more than one equipment configuration.

The DA part of the contract number indicates that this was a Dept. of 
the Army contract. The -87- part indicates that it was an FY87 contract. 
Pretty old, as SATCOM stuff goes.

The design activity code, 56996, is the CAGE code for the US Army 
Communications Research & Development Division, Ft. Monmouth, NJ.

The MFR code, 66948, is the CAGE code for Harris Corp., Government 
Communications System Division, Palm Bay, FL.

CAGE is the acronym meaning Commercial And Government Entity. CAGE codes 
can be looked up at this URL: https://www.bpn.gov/bincs/begin_search.asp

Beyond that, I've no help. Perhaps Robert can shed more light...
